Saqib Awan

Group General Counsel & Company Secretary

Mr. Saqib Awan has been the Group General Counsel and Company Secretary of Kuwait Food Company (Americana) KSCC since joining back in July 2018.

In his role, Saqib Awan managed the corporate governance function of the Company along with its holding and operating subsidiaries in various jurisdictions where Americana operates. In addition, he was part of the instrumental transformation efforts of the Group leading to the separation of restaurants and food businesses of the Group and resulting in the first dual listing of the restaurants business in the region. Saqib Awan is now serving dual corporate role for both businesses and leading the restructuring efforts for the Food business alongside his role as the head of the Group’s legal function. In addition to the compliance function of the Group and its subsidiaries, his current mandate encompasses dealing with legal and regulatory affairs of the Company’s businesses within various jurisdictions. Saqib Awan plays an instrumental role in executing shareholder and Board matters, cascading the same at local levels, streamlining governance controls and managing various corporate appointments across the Company’s subsidiaries in all jurisdictions.

Prior to his current role, he was a Senior Legal Counsel at the UAE’s Federal sovereign wealth fund; Emirates Investment Authority leading restructuring and corporatizing initiatives of the country’s strategic assets and investments. He also served as the Chief Legal Officer at a number of boutique investment houses in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In addition, he was a Senior Legal Consultant at the international law firm; DLA Piper in the UAE and KSA, and a lawyer at The Alliance Law Firm in KSA. He started his career journey as a bilingual research Associate at CARMA International in the UK.

Saqib Awan holds an LLM in School of Oriental & African Studies from the University of London, a bachelor’s in art and an LLB (Hon) from the International Islamic University in Pakistan.
